Hazardous Waste Management
Expertise in Alabama

MCF Environmental Services have been serving medical clinics, laboratories, education institutions and local businesses for more than 30 years, offering specialist waste collection and disposal services for hazardous and non-hazardous waste streams.

If you are a generator of medical or hazardous waste in Alabama (whether a private or government enterprise), you must be aware of the state governances that regulate both waste streams and the responsibilities that fall on you as a waste generator. Let’s start with healthcare facilities.

In Alabama, medical waste is governed by the Department of Environmental Management, fully outlined in their Land Division Chapter. Within this chapter, a medical waste generator is defined as a medical facility or person who produces or generates medical waste. The term includes but is not limited to hospitals, nursing or convalescent facilities, intermediate care facilities, clinics, dialysis clinics, blood banks, dental offices, surgical clinics, veterinary clinics, laboratories, research and manufacturing facilities.

Hazardous Waste is regulated by the Alabama Land Division. Hazardous Waste regulations and permitting requirements can be found in Alabama’s Department of Environmental Management (ADEM) Administrative Code in Division 14. A Healthcare facility that treats, stores or disposes of hazardous waste on-site must comply with standards and permit requirements in Chapters 335-14-5, 335-14-6, 335-14-7, 335-14-8, and 335-14-9 of Division 14.

Whether a healthcare facility, laboratory or industrial enterprise, it is critical that you understand Alabama’s Hazardous Waste Disposal and Management rules and ensure all practices – from hazardous waste accumulation to contingency plans and waste disposal are in line with the federal Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) laws.

As a trusted and specialized hazardous waste management company, our team at MCF take great pride in helping Alabama clinics and local businesses navigate the complexities of regulated waste disposal into a program that is simple to understand and ensures the highest levels of compliance and environmental responsibility are met. From the get go, we will ensure you have everything you need – guidance on waste accumulation and storage, labels, containers + bags for compliant waste collection, a customized waste pickup schedule and dedicated driver, and manifests, reporting and training that ensure your facility meets the requirements of Alabama’s Department of Environmental Management.
