01 / Why Proper Flag Retirement Matters
The American flag is a symbol of national pride, sacrifice, and service. Over time, flags wear out—fading, tearing, or becoming damaged. But what many don’t realize is that the U.S. Flag Code provides clear guidance: flags should be retired in a dignified way.
Unfortunately, most people don’t know where to turn for proper disposal. That’s why MCF Environmental Services is stepping in with a simple solution.
02 / How the Free Pickup Program Works
Through our new program, businesses can now have their worn flags respectfully retired—at no cost.
Here’s how it works:
During your regular MCF pickup, simply hand your flag to the driver.
Our team will transport it respectfully to our partners at American Legion Post 258.
The flag will be ceremonially retired, in full accordance with U.S. Flag Code.
No fees—just patriotic service, delivered with dignity.
03 / Veteran Pride: A Personal Perspective
Being a veteran and having served four years in the U.S. Army from January 1972 to December 1975, I’ve developed a deep respect for what the American flag represents. My father also served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, which makes this even more meaningful to me. I’m proud to be part of a company that honors our nation’s flag through this program.
04 / A Natural Extension of MCF’s Values
This flag retirement initiative is more than a program—it’s a reflection of who we are.
At MCF, we’re committed to:
Serving our communities with respect
Honoring veterans and national traditions
Handling every task—no matter how small—with care and integrity
Whether it's managing complex environmental waste or retiring a worn American flag, we believe in doing the right thing, the right way. This program is an extension of that mindset—one that prioritizes service, dignity, and purpose.
